DRY INGREDIENTS
DRY INGREDIENT
These are those type of ingredients which are found in dry or powder form of ingredients, like, baking powder, baking soda, bran, brown sugar, bread-crumbs, conning or pickling salt, cocoa powder, corn meal / four, corn starch, cream of tartar, flour, flour for all purpose, flour arrowroot, flour bread, flour cake, flour cat, flour pasting, flour potato starch, flour rice, flour self rising, four whole wheat, granulated sugar, herbs, kosher salt, oatmeal, pearl sugar, pepper, powdered sugar, salt, salt substitute , sea salt, spices, superfine sugar, table salt, wheat germ and yeast etc.
Baking Powder
This is a combination of baking soda and an acid and a moisture absorber, which together form a leavening agent. Just the right amount of acid is added to the baking soda so that when the baking powder is added to moist ingredients, there is a reaction that releases carbon dioxide bubbles.
Bran
Bran, the hard outer layer of whole cereal grains such as oats, wheat, rice, and corn, contains healthy doses of protein, iron, fiber, carbohydrates, fatty acids, and other nutrients, including B-vitamins. Many people associate it with a "healthy" muffin or "good" choice of breakfast cereal. Milling strips the bran from grains, significantly reducing the nutritional content of refined products such as white flours, quick-cooking rice, and breakfast grits.
Baking Soda
It is an ingredient which is used as leavening agent. When it is mixed with an acidic ingredient and then comes in contact with liquid ingredients, a chemical process occurs which releases carbon dioxide gas and causes the rising action in dough or better. Some of the acidic ingredients that cause the reaction with baking soda are vinegar, lemon juice, orange juice, butter milk, sour milk, sour cream, honey, chocolate etc.
Brown Sugar
Grainy sugar that has molasses syrup added to sugar. This syrup softens the texture of the sugar. It is available in a light and dark variety. The darker has a more intense flavour. Use light brown sugar unless dark brown is specifically specified in the recipe.
Canning and Pickling Salt
A fine-grained salt that does not contain any additives, which prevents the salty form becoming cloudy when canning and pickling salt. It is used when canning and pickling vegetables and meats. It can also be used in the same manner as table salt but it may start to clump when exposed to excessive humidity.
Corn Meal / Flour
Corn flour is a type of flour that's milled from dried whole corn kernels. It contains the hull, germ, and endosperm of the corn and is considered a whole grain flour. Corn flour is usually yellow, but it can also be white or blue depending on the variety of corn it uses. The texture is fine and smooth, similar to whole wheat flour. Like all flours, corn flour gives structure to baked goods and other foods. It's often combined with a binder like eggs to provide shape. Corn flour doesn't taste very good raw, but cooking—whether it's baking, frying, or grilling—unlocks its earthy, sweet flavour. Corn flour is extremely versatile, and you can incorporate it into recipes for breads, muffins, waffles, pancakes, battered and fried foods, blinis, and more.
