Planning is a search problem that requires to find an efficient sequence of actions that transform a system from a given starting state to the goal state.

Planning is the starting point of the management process.


Proper planning accomplishes the following :-

Managing uncertainty.

Better Focus.

Improves Coordination.

Basis for Control.

Improves Effectiveness.


Planning is pervasive at :-

Individual Level.

Team Level.

Department Level.

Corporation Level.



Types of planning :-

Strategic Planning.

Tactical Planning.

Operational Planning.



Strategic Planning

This is long term planning that involves all. The organization's management, areas and its content is relatively general

Focuses on broad & long lasting issues that ensure the organization’s long-term effectiveness and Survival

This planning is the responsibility of organization's director at executive levels.



Tactical Planning

When organizations are very large-they-require a link blues Strategic planning & operational planning processes.

More specific and Limited to a single direction, program or specific Programmatic area with a medium - team scope.

It is the responsibility of the organization's mid- level staff.



Operational Planning

It has short team scope, & is specific for the working teams, of any operational unit.

Focus is achieving objectives & carrying out short-term activities.

It corresponds  annual work plan.

Long term & Short term.

Formal & Informal.

Proactive & Reactive.

Strategic & Operational.



Planning Process :-

1. Goal Setting.

2. Determining Planning Premises.

3. Identifying Alternatives.

4. Evaluation & Selection.

5. Implementation & Review.

6. Analysing the Data.




Organisational Mission :-

- The mission states the organization’s values, aspirations, and reason for existence. 

- The mission statement is the basis for all following goals and plans.

- Without a clear mission, goals and plans may be developed haphazardly causing the organization to fail.



It should be focus on :-

- Market and customers.

- Desired types of activities 

- Corporates values

- Product quality 

- Location of facilities 

- Attitude toward employees 



OBJECTIVES GOALS AND PLANS 

Objectives :- are goals, aims or purposes that organization wish over varying periods of time. 

Goals :- specify future ends and desired future state

Plans :- specify the means to future ends. The blueprint for goal achievement. Specifies the necessary resource allocations, schedules and tasks.


a. Single use plan :- which develop to achieve objectives that are not likely to be repeated in future

b. Standing plan :- which is used to provide guidance for tasks performed repeatedly within the organization.
